What do I do?

It has been said that writers are artists. Hence, as artists, we like to find different ways to express ourselves. In our case, our way of expression comes in the form of written text.

I would like all of you to be artists with the freedom to express yourselves in any way that you would like. Every Monday morning, I will post the topic for you to write about. Once you have read my topic, you will need to write your responses on your own blog. Your responses ought to be 2-3 paragraphs in length, but you should not spend more than 30 minutes writing them. Be sure to title each blog entry with "Topic #__:" and then your own title.

Next, you will need to comment on your classmates' blogs. Each student needs to leave a 2-3 sentences comment on two other students' blogs in order to receive credit per week.

Your responses and comments will need to be completed by5:00 p.m. every Friday. There will be no exception! Therefore, plan on completing this assignment before the Friday deadline in order to ensure that you receive full credit, which will be 10 points for each week. I will be leaving a comment on each blog I read to indicate to you that I have read your blog.

On a final note, these blogs are intended to be fun and to allow you to display your creativity. Be adventurous and express yourselves! Although we may occasionally use some of your blog entries for grammar practice, these blogs are primarily focused on content. Therefore, have fun!

Topic #9: What's Next?

We are finally coming down to the last couple of weeks of class!  What are your plans after this Fall 2012 semester?  What do you hope to accomplish from now on?  As you reflect back on this semester, did you complete the goals you had set in mind?  What kind of goals will you make for the future?

Topics #8: Senses

As we all know, human beings have five senses: touch, smell, hearing, taste, and sight.  From what I can see, I know that everyone in this class currently is able to use all five senses.  HOWEVER!  If you had to lose one of your five senses, which would it be and why??

Topic #7: What Would You UN-invent?

We can very easily say that within the past decade, technology has made leaps and bounds in its advancement.  Do you remember when cell phones were JUST cell phones?  Do you remember the time before cell phones came into existence?  Did any of you carry pagers/beepers?  It is true that technology has made life easier.  However, I would like you to take a moment to really think about it.  Has technology truly made our lives easier?  Hmm...

The question I have for you this week is an invention that you would UN-invent.  Haha!  It sounds quite contradictory, but I want you all to really think about it and write your entries on this topic.

Topic #6: Time Travel

Hollywood has come out with several movies that are about time travel; for instance, we have 12 Monkeys, Bill & Ted's Excellent Adventures, Butterfly Effect, etc.  Have you ever thought about going back into time?  If you could go back in time as yourself to observe any single event from history, what would you want to witness?  Why this particular event?  Would you want this event to be altered in any way?  Would you try to alter the past?

Topic #5: Pet Peeves

According to Dictionary.com, a "pet peeve" is defined as "a particular and often continual annoyance."  All of us have certain pet peeves (things that annoy us).  What are some of your pet peeves?

To give you an example, I get annoyed when I am driving, and I see a car with their blinker constantly blinking.  When I see a car with their blinker on, I assume they want to come into the lane in front of me.  Therefore, I will give them space and maintain the speed I am at.  However, as some time passes, I realize that they have forgotten to turn off their blinker.  Ah!! That annoys me.

How about you?  What are some of your pet peeves?

Topic #4: I Am Beautiful/Handsome, but...

All of you are beautiful and handsome, but if you could change one thing about your physical appearance, what would you change?  Why?  Do you think you will actually change it in the future?

Topic #3: I Speak...?

If you could be INSTANTLY fluent in one other language that you do not currently read or speak, which would you select and why? I know that several of you may want to select English, but please make another selection.

In my case, I have several languages that I would want to learn such as Arabic, Chinese, German, etc. However, of all those languages, I think I would like to learn Hebrew.  Hebrew has always fascinated me, for I think it is a very powerful language. How about yourself? Which language would you choose and why?

Topic #2: First Impressions of California

What were your first impressions of California when you first arrived?  Do you remember the sights, smells, and sounds?  Reflect back on the time when you first arrived here in California and share what you initially thought.  Lastly, have your impressions changed?

Topic #1: Who Are You?

Although we have had a chance to get to know one another a little bit due to the candy game, I would still like for us to get to know each other even better!  Who are you?  What are your interests?  Why did you decide to come to the United States to study?  What interests you, and what does not interest you?  You are completely free to write anything about yourself, so please feel free to help us get to know you even better!

Are You Ready??

Welcome, Advanced Composition Section 4 students!  We have finally started the Fall 2012 semester.  How do you all feel?  Do you feel ready for the new semester?  I really hope that we will be able to enjoy our time together.  I really look forward to getting to know you all more, and for those of you who I already know, I hope to get to know you even better!  Let the semester begin!
